About Us
history
8½, originally a Copped Hall, was leased in 1295 and occupied a historic site on Dowgate Hill, with the main hall accessed via a courtyard. Destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666, the hall was rebuilt and completed in 1672. Today, it is a Grade 1 listed building, with scheduled ancient monument status.
Sustainability
8½ is Grade 1 Listed and a scheduled ancient monument; it has been renovated to the highest standard and equipped to meet the City’s 2040 emission targets.
Accessibility
All rooms are fully accessible; unique in a scheduled ancient monument at the heart of the City.

The renovation has been utterly transformational, a remarkably difficult act to pull off in such a sensitive location … a scheduled monument, and an exceptional building recognised by the government as being nationally important. Any works … have to be entirely necessary, thoroughly researched, and carried out to the very highest standards of craftsmanship. The presentation throughout is exceptional, with remarkable attention to detail. The high-profile rooms are beautifully presented … a building fit for the 21st century.
